Clarity, Focus and Personal Improvement: 3 Ways to Maintain Growth

Face it, we are overwhelmed with instantaneous news and content that blasts our senses with information at such a rapid pace, it is a wonder we get anything done at all. It is almost as though, in the world of smartphones, tablets and instant everything, clarity seems to mean overload.

It as if we are being told that unless we have the information we need RIGHT NOW, we can’t function in today’s modern society. Clarity, vision and personal improvement, it seems, hinge on the amount of information you have, not the simplicity of it all.

You Kids, Get Off My Lawn

Now, trust me, I am not a “You kids get of my lawn” kind of guy. I am a tech person thru-and-thru. I love gadgets and, quite frankly do all my pursuits online and with technology, so I understand the temptation to depend on your very thinking with the overload that is today’s world.

But as I sit and type this, I look out my window on what appears to be a beautiful, sunny day. But what the sun is masking in all of its information overload is that when I step outside to go on my daily bike ride, the sun didn’t tell me it was a bit chilly and that the shirt i was wearing wasn’t quite enough to keep me comfortable.

You see, the sun overloaded my senses with its brightness but failed to give me clarity. It was only until I garnered my own experience and perspective, did I see the usefulness of clarity. It was only when I set about on my personal improvement of my desire to keep an active regiment, in this case by riding my bike, did i understand that i needed to protect myself from the chill of the morning.

3 Ways to Maintain Clarity and Focus and Personal Improvement

It seems that many are hyper-focused on “getting it right”, whatever that means, and setting goals and plans with dreams of riches and success and for the “good life’, what ever that is defines for you.

Way 1: Decide What is Right For You

Just Like the sun overload as i set out to ride my bike, I allowed a perceived message of clarity to decide for me as to what was going to be comfortable for me to ride.

But really needed to happen here was that i needed to just put on my sunglasses and decide for myself what was what i needed to ride in comfort.

The same goes for you. Sometimes it means to you need to put on the shades and block out the rays of confusion that may be trying to give you false information that is right for you.

This is the only Now Moment you have and it is the time when clarity and focus  is not decided by the world telling you that this or that must be done or is right for you. Maybe some things can be put on the back burner. Maybe it s time to refocus.

You decide for you for that is the source of joy.

Way 2: Your Goals and Dreams are Opening Nights; The Clarity and Focus of Now is All That Matters

Remember that your goals are Opening Nights. They are out there only as a reminder that you want to be ready when the curtain finally opens, but the only time the curtain is going to matter is in this Now Moment.

You see, your Opening Night just doesn’t matter if the rehearsals were not filled with a clarity and focus that allowed for the excellence of getting your part in the production down.

Way 3: Your Clarity, Focus and Personal Improvement Lifts All Others Around You

The Now Moment is when you are clear and focused on your part only. It is the time to make sure you are comfortable in your own skin. When you seek to improve yourself and seek a clarity and focus about yourself, then you tend to see others as a chance to become better as well. You will find the best in others when you are doing so within first.

On stage the other actors in your play may surprise you in their acting from time to time, but you will never be thrown off as you know YOU so well that you can get them back on track, if needed. When you know the show so well that you have every ones part ingrained as well, you can help guide and actor back on track within the confines of the script.

Clarity, Focus and Personal Improvement are the three sides of the triangle that keep you grounded in this Now Moment, so, put on your sun glasses and decide for yourself that this is the moment that matters most.

Set Opening Night, but don’t live there. Forgive the rehearsal nights of the past that may have been “off” as we all have off nights where it seems as if we just don’t have a rhythm.

That’s the beauty of rehearsal, to become excellent in this Now Moment. Make clarity, focus and personal improvement your triangle that envelops your success and your Opening Nights will be filled with accolades.

Be a Person of Quality. Direct Your Power.

Until then…

Breakaway From Limiting Thoughts: 3 Ways To Begin Anew Now

My Pandora played me a song by Kelly Clarkson, Breakaway, and i thought that the words of the chorus fit perfectly into the place we must all decide to do to really advance ourselves into each fantastic Now Moment.

Breakaway From Limiting Thoughts

The lyrics of the chorus are:

I’ll spread my wings and I’ll learn how to fly

I’ll do what it takes til’ I touch the sky

And I’ll make a wish

Take a chance

Make a change

And breakaway

Out of the darkness and into the sun

But I won’t forget all the ones that I love

I’ll take a risk

Take a chance

Make a change

And breakaway

These words struck me as a way to release yourself into a new Now Moment in a way that seeks to honor the experiences of the past.

However, to really release yourself, you must indeed breakaway from the anchors that sometimes keep you in a place that is not necessarily a bad place, but a place that is maybe too comforting. You have to release you have to breakaway.

It is funny as i coach people from all walks of life, sometimes it is the very comfort of what they see as a place of security that are the limiting thoughts that bind them in a place in their lives.

Sometimes it is the very security that you desire in a relationship, a station in life, or whatever, that keeps you from spreading your wings. Sometimes letting go is indeed the risk that others decide for you is crazy.

But the point is that others are deciding for you.Are you deciding for you?

Limiting thoughts are that place within you that is nothing more than the ego telling you that you are not worthy of a better experience. It is so-called security that binds you to an image of what is safe and secure.

You know, as i love the watching of reality shows, i watch with interest “The Biggest Loser” and hear to tell of how Americans have allowed that very thought of security and a sedentary lifestyle to become their reality. We become creatures that are then based in the image of security instead of the expansion of our selves into a better creature of the world.

During “The Biggest Loser”, the trainers usually get into the heads of the various folks at the ranch where they train. As they train them, they come to discover that the overweight individuals have become creatures of limiting thoughts in that they have retreated within themselves and put a certain amount of trust in the food as it judges them not.

It simply is there and is a place that they can find a comfort as the limiting thoughts that brought them there are now solely at the behest of the food.

Most have done this, if not with food, with relationships, or careers or anything else that seems fairly innocuous on the surface. Anything that keeps you at a place in your life and does not allow for your expansion is at the core of limiting thoughts.

3 Ways to Breakaway From Limiting Thoughts

Remember if you are allowing yourself to be kept in a place that you do not expand your soul, then you are limiting yourself. We are creatures of expansion of a soul level and that expansion brings forth the creation of the world we share with other enlightened souls.

Way 1: The Past is the Past. Forgetaboutit!

There is this feeling i first heard my mother describe as being “out of sorts”, meaning that something is just not right in your soul. You are unsettled but can’t really understand why.

That something is always the past that is rippling onto the Present Moment. Most live in such a place of regret and guilt with things that happened or did not happen in some distant past that they are ‘out of sorts’ with the Present Moment. The ego loves this. The Now Moment then is forgotten about and the past and future, then, are the essence of living, according to the ego.

You have to let go in love. This is the key. There must be only love for the experiences and lessons of the past alone. Yes, everyone has heartbreak and tragedy in their lives, as that is the natural order of things, but you have to, as the Italians say, “forgetaboutit!” Which in Italian means, leave it or die. Usually when you don’t forgetaboutit, you die. So make sure you “forgetaboutit”.

It was best described in the Movie from 1997 called, “Donnie Brasco” when an FBI technician asked Donnie Brasco what it meant. This was his response. “Forget about it is like if you agree with someone, you know, like Raquel Welch is one great piece of ass, forget about it. But then, if you disagree, like A Lincoln is better than a Cadillac? Forget about it! you know? But then, it’s also like if something’s the greatest thing in the world, like mingia those peppers, forget about it. But it’s also like saying Go to hell! too. Like, you know, like “Hey Paulie, you got a one inch pecker?” and Paulie says “Forget about it!” Sometimes it just means forget about it.”

The Past is the Past, Forgetaboutit!

Way 2: Understand That You Are the One Who Allows All in Your Life

This is a tough one to grasp, but this takes you to a place of responsibility in your life and frees you from the trap of not going froward with a knowledge that you can be expansive in thought, word and deed.

You are a creative being meant to be expansive and to create your own reality. To not allow that to happen is to allow the ego and those in your sphere to determine for you your existence.

If you have decided that life, the economy, a relationship or anything else that is ‘holding you back’ is responsible for your limiting thoughts and actions, then rethink it.

Believe it or not, you are the creator of your greatness and you are meant to live a life not based on excuses of why you can’t move forward. If you have retreated into some type of comfort like food or alcohol, you might want to stop and ask yourself why.

If you are constantly saying that this or that happened to you, you might want to understand that nothing happens “to” you but “because of you”.

There is no judgement here and no reason for self-incrimination or blame. Just release yourself to it and become a person that desires to know that there are no limitations. You can create your own reality, but begin the process now, for this is the only moment you have.

Way 3: Let Your Mind Go Free

You have to, as the song, Breakaway, says, take a risk, Take a chance, Make a change And breakaway.

Where do you want to go? Who do you desire to be Now? Who do you desire to become when you have released yourself to be so?

What is stopping you?

Here is the answer to the last question…You.

Create your own reality, not one self-imposed on you by a set of beings who have themselves, limited thinking and perceptions of what is and could be. You are better than those kind of thoughts.

Be aware, though, this step requires the full commitment to truly unleashing yourself. I usually describe this process to clients as the realization that the room that you have been locked in is finally open for you to leave, but you enter the hallway with your hand still on the door frame, just in case.

Just in case of what?

Step into the hallway and thank the room for the experience of solitude, if nothing else. Don’t look back for it was but a place that kept you from expanding.

You are free. You did Breakaway and now the world is your oyster. It is up to you to find the Pearl within it that is right for you alone.

Be a Person of Quality. Direct Your Power.

Until then…

Be Excellent, Expect the Best!

An Attitude of Gratitude; 5 Ways to Live There

I recently attended a birthday party for a young boy who was turning 9 years young. The time for presents had come and as the presents were presented, the young boy tore into the packages with glee, but i noticed something lacking in its intensity.

An Attitude of Gratitude

Now, don’t get me wrong here, i would not assume an mature aspect of living to a child that has yet to embrace the concept of gratitude. At that point in their life, is it not all about a concept of “me” and the things that “me” wants?

Not so sure of that.

I questioned myself as to when an Attitude of Gratitude is indeed instilled. I mean, is it like a switch that is turned on at a certain time? It seems to be like many other rather insane held beliefs in our society. Ones like, ‘You are 18 today, you are now a man’, as many young boys have heard. Again, like a switch is turned on and you ‘become’ a man just like that.

There are countless others that i am sure you have heard, but is having an Attitude of Gratitude one that ‘just happens’?

Again, i am not so sure of that.

it is something that must fully manifest, but, it is my belief, that it must be nurtured and not coerced within us. Not the obligatory ‘love’ you must have for a relatives gift that you are instructed to be thankful for, but true, honest and heartfelt gratitude for the living of life

5 Ways to Instill the Journey of an Attitude of Gratitude

Way 1: It is Thee, not Me

When directing, i would tell the actors a little ditty i penned that would seem to get to the heart of performing.

‘The Me that acts is for Thee alone, but cares not what Thee thinks.’

The concepts here are that you act in appreciation of the audience alone but, at the core, you are not acting for their approval. When any great performance in a movie or play takes you to a level of an appreciation for the story being told and for the lesson contained within, you lose yourself in the story and not the actors or the special effects.

This is why a movie like Star Wars appeals to so many; it is not the special effects, (but, hey, who doesn’t want a lightsaber with them at all times?) but the story of the one no one thinks can who becomes the hero. It is a journey of self discovery we all desire to take. Becoming a Jedi, was becoming bigger that what Luke was but somehow knew he was.

This is gratitude at its core. Becoming something besides yourself.

Way 2: The Details of the Details

I tell my coaching clients that while so many say that the beauty of life is in the details, i tell them to think a bit…smaller. The beauty of life is in the details of the details. This is the true expression of living in the Moment, being Present to yourself, therefore to all.

You see, when you are so in tune with your very surroundings, every sound and nuance that surrounds you, you become a creature that cannot do anything except be grateful.

I can tell you this is a very intricate gesture, but one that, as you practice it, it becomes counter-intuitive to you.

What do i mean? When you become so focused on details within details, you become intrinsically aware of sounds, colors and movements that are so very precious. Watch an animal sleep. Notice every aspect of their fur move as they sleep. notice how they are aware of sounds as they sleep as their ears move and adjust, seemingly unconscious to their very sleeping.

This is a mental exercise that will give you a new appreciation of the beauty of life, but one that must be done to do so.

Way 3: Smile

This may seem years apart from an Attitude of Gratitude, but if you are to just smile in this Now Moment, you will begin to feel a new awareness. Now, suffice it to say, this must be a real smile. Even if you believe you are not in a situation that you believe warrants a smile, do so anyway.

You are here, present in this Now Moment. You made it and there is nothing stopping you from smiling, is there? Besides maybe it would be fun to live the old saying, ‘Smile, it makes people wonder what you have been up to.

Way 4: Focus

This speaks to Way 3; Smiling. If you feel silly just smiling, first, tell the ego to take a hike, for that is the only thing telling you it is ridiculous and the assumptions you give about others looks about you or to you are none of your business. You don’t care.

But the way to really smile is to focus on something tangible within your surroundings. Focus on that object and really think of what went into it. If it is a person or an animal, focus on the details of every aspect of them. What makes you attracted to them. What is pleasing to your senses. Keep emotions out, even though your gratitude will elicit emotions, keep any emotions out initially as you focus. Really look at what ever it is and allow yourself to bask in the appreciation for what it is in every way and smile as you do so.

This will take you to the details of the details and allow you to smile with a genuine heart.

Way 5: Release Yourself

Your experiences have brought you here, but were never meant to be an anchor to hold you at some sandbar of a past point where you briefly ran aground as you sailed the stream of life. You are free to be and to love and to laugh and to appreciate everything. You have been designed to be a creature of joy and of love and this can only be experienced in the grips of a Spirit that appreciates everything in all ways.

To truly live in an Attitude of Gratitude, release yourself to the attitude to begin with. Let go and let the Universe carry you to love in this Now Moment alone. Be like the little boy on his birthday and revel in the gifts of this Present Moment, but unlike the boy, relish the moments with an Attitude of Gratitude for what they are and with those who share them with you.

For herein lies all love.

Have always an Attitude of Gratitude and until then…

Be Excellent, Expect the Best.

Love and The Ego; Opposites Don’t Attract – 3 Ways to Release the Ego’s Hold on Love

I was always amazed when i was a kid when i would see some newscast of some man ready to be put to death and the obligatory interview of the man’s mother would flash across the screen. You could tell there was anguish in the mothers face, but never one of disgust so much for what their child had become, but for the love lost that the mother seemed to feel, not for herself, but for the child that had lost love for life, for humanity at-large.

The sadness, for the most part, was a sadness for love, then. It was never self-centered in that it was not a “why could you do this to me,” as often times love is, but a sense of sadness on the beauty of the missed opportunities that this person will not be a part of.

They say that other than the love God has for his creation, that the love of a mother is the closest thing we get to unconditional love.

I can see that point, however, i don’t agree with it as we are all capable. Yes, men, we are creatures born of love, and are capable of a love as deep and resounding, true unconditional love, as any one else.

In my years as a director, i was often amazed as to the ways a production came together when the cast and crew generally had a genuine love and respect for one another. It seemed as if one person came in with an attitude of being the star, then the play suffered. My directing, then, was as much breeding the egoic nature of performing out, while bringing the love of the art of the production into every performance.

Ask any sports coach of a professional team, which i have, and, in their own way, they will tell you the same thing. Multimillion dollar salaries come with an egoic price that sometimes destroys a team. They are, then, the true coaching opportunities.

My point in all of this: Ego and Love are Never Pals.

In this culture of throw-away relationships and throw-away marriages, love has taken a beating and it seems that we have forgotten the truth of love. The very fact that we know of unconditional love, means it exists. Love, then, has just become a muddled mess and used by the ego as a tool, a weapon and a way to advance the ego’s right to exist; to protect us from whatever.

While i am not an avid sports fan, i once had someone who was explain the relationship of men to sports. “Men,” he told me, “love sports because the beauty of the game (whatever the sport is) never lets them down. Yes, it (love) usually is directed as an allegiance to a team, but it is the essence of the statistics, to a degree, the nature of the game, that they love. The game itself never truly lets them down, it is only the nature of the performance of the individuals. They can love the game because the game is an unconditional love, of sorts.”

I can understand the emotion of that sentiment as a theatrical director. I would always tell my actors at the beginning of the rehearsals that “the play is the thing” meaning that, no matter what each brought to the table in terms of talent, it is the play that is being served by that talent and then served to the masses.

Such is the nature of love. When love is the thing, we bring who we are to love and if there is any reordering of that sequence, you need to see if the ego is the thing.

Unconditional Love – 3 Ways to Release the Ego’s Hold on Love

Step 1: Release all past hurts in love; Forgive

Enough can not be said of this aspect of living in general; the very art of forgiving. Yes, it is an art but, like love, it has been bastardized that even the word itself means so little. It is like when you were a kid and your mother or father told you to say you were sorry to a sibling. You said it, not so much that you were, but to appease the guardian so as to not inflict wrath for not at least acting as much.

The ego then uses that throughout life and gives you the idea that you have forgiven those as needed, as a way to appease. Look, as far as relationships go, the only one that has “worked” is the one you are in, right? Unless, you have been with one person only, and have never had any other feelings for anyone else, everyone has “failed” at most every relationship.

Now, the point here is that the very terms of “worked” and “failed” are egoic terms used to keep you tied to the past and looking to some future relationship that serves only the ego.

All relationships are put here to give us a sense of humanity. If they are life-long journeys, or brief encounters, they teach us, they guide us, they are us. Forgive the relationships that the ego has tried to hold you in within time and understand that everyone is on their own journey.

Release the ego’s hold on all of the past relationships and truly forgive.

Step 2: Understand that Love is its Own Energy

Some would be confused by that statement as the ego, once again, thinks it directs all aspects of love. I think it is best explained this way; Have you ever moved from a house you lived in for a long period of time? Did you go back one more time and go through it just to reminisce?

Most have.

The point is that the house is just a shell, what gave it the energy were the souls of love that inhabited and shared a truth of love within it. The house becomes, in a sense, the unconditional love. It is a safe place, a place of comfort.

That is the basis for the expression, “Home is where the heart is.” When we see someone that society has deemed “homeless”, it is not so much that they don’t have a physical structure, but a place where they feel a sense of unconditional love. This is true homelessness.

When you truly understand that love is its own energy, you move on to Step 3.

Step 3: The 100% Solution

The ego always tells you that there is an essence of love that expects something in return and the sad thing is that we have come to believe it. It is like when you receive a gift and the gift seems to have strings attached. Like when your loved one gives you something and then admonishes you if you don’t use it as the ego intends.

Then it is not really a gift, is it?

We have all probably done it; given something and expected them to like it and use it and feel offended if it is not. If you give someone an article of clothing and they turn around and throw it away or give it immediately to someone else, while in front of you, then it should not offend you in any way.

Sounds hard does it not? But the real question is why are you offended? The moment you gave the gift, you should be practicing the 100% Solution; the release of 100% of love and the expectation of nothing in return.

Trust me, i have heard it all here; “I don’t want to be a doormat.” “I won’t ever be appreciated”, “I’ll be taken advantage of” or whatever else the ego uses to protect you.

But a great  quote from Thomas Kimpas reads, “He who loves with purity considers not the gift of the lover, but the love of the giver.”

The 100% Solution is simply giving with all that you are and don’t expect anything in return. Give 100% and, when you truly reach that in any relationship, with life, you shall be released of any egoic tendencies to insulate or protect yourself from love.

But, instead you simply become love.

Forgive, Accept the Energy of Love and Become the 100% Solution for there you will find yourself.

Enlightenment, The 3 Steps, Part II: The Letting Go

Have you ever heard anyone say, I forgive such and such but i will never forget it?

It is like going to a family function that most dread during any holiday season. You have grown and matured and maybe even have a larger view of the Universal Way than most in your family, and this is not an egoic statement, but a journey that you just understand that you have taken.

But you get home and all you hear from your family is how you failed at this as a kid or did this stupid thing or that stupid thing. You know, the natural process of growing up and learning what works and what doesn’t for yourself that we all go through, but somehow has not been branded on you as an anchor against moving forward.

It is as if your family, no matter how much you have grown and developed, can’t “let it go.” Family members and old friends, (but it seems that they are sometime a bit more progressive) are hell-bent on keeping you forever that little snot-nosed little kid that couldn’t do anything right.

Even Jesus said as much when it was discussed about when he went home when he was on his earthly mission. The townsfolk said, “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Come on, nothing good has ever come from our town.” Which led to the saying that a prophet is neglected even in his own home town.

The point is, as was discussed in the last post about releasing, the forgiving of those parts of your past that have kept you tied in the past, might have been the easy part.

Even though the emotions of forgiveness are not always easy and must be dealt with, how can you truly know if you have been successful in completely forgiving?

That is the essence of step 2; Letting Go.

We began with the picture of a family reunion and most understand as they have been there. Families have a pecking order and no matter how much you achieve, you always will be that kid who did the thing that everyone talks about to keep you forever reminded where you came from.

To really move forward, to find that enlightenment that must become your Now Moment reality, you must Let Go. You must Forgive AND Forget; You must Let Go.

At the core, Releasing and Letting Go seem to be very similar in nature but they are a continuation upon one another. You can’t Let Go if you have not forgiven yourself, first, and then the person or situation second.

There is a great quote from Tina Turner where she says, ““Sometimes you’ve got to let everything go – purge yourself. If you are unhappy with anything . . . whatever is bringing you down, get rid of it. Because you’ll find that when you’re free, your true creativity, your true self comes out.”

The process of Letting Go is really just that; purging of all that has held you back and at the core of that is, indeed, forgiveness of yourself and others.

This is the truth of allowing joy to come into your soul.

Accept responsibility for yourself and don’t be a victim to anyone’s idea of you and who you should be based on a now-gone past that has no barring on this Now Moment. Yes, it existed but it was as is the wake of a boat, it merely shows you where you have been, it should never be an anchor to keep you there.

In the end, it as as the ancient Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu says, “He who knows himself is enlightened.”

You must Forgive and you must Let Go, for here is the beginning of all understanding. Then, as we will discuss in Part 3, Flow, will become your natural state of being

Enlightenment: 3 Steps to See the Beginning of The Journey (Part 1)

There is an interesting show on HBO, by the very name, Enlightened. In this show, a once high-powered executive, played brilliantly by Laura Dern, has a breakdown and is committed to a rehab clinic where she has an Enlightened moment of Supreme Consciousness.

Supreme Consciousness is as if, for a brief moment, (and that is what these moments are many times) a peace and serenity comes over your being. Your every waking moment from that point onward then becomes a re-creation of that moment in your expression of living.

Unfortunately, as Laura Dern’s character comes to find out, everyone is not on the same path as you, and it is unfathomable how anyone could not understand the journey as you are living it. I mean, it is very clear that enlightenment must be something that everyone desires, right? How is it that your new found place in the Universal Stream is not something desired by all?

This, then, becomes the disconnect. This, then, becomes the reason your ego steers you clear from “those” types, for it is not normal, this “enlightened” nonsense, and you certainly don’t ever want to be seen as “not normal”.

Right?

It has always fascinated me how the media paints “normalcy.” But here is the thing…it is a moving target that changes by the shifting sands of time and societal nuances. The normal of today becomes the old-fashioned thinking of yesterday, and sometimes virtually overnight. If you want to see that really played out, look at computer magazines from merely five years ago. Heck, go back two years, that should do it. The computing world has changed so dramatically that simply having a cell phone two years old makes you outdated.

The same goes for normalcy as we define it. What does this have to do with enlightenment and the steps to begin the journey?

Everything, for you see this is a journey that leaves the boundaries of normalcy behind, for you are desiring a state of joy. Joy has no boundaries and is never out of fashion. Enlightenment is that journey that always begins within and creates change in a way that becomes your normal, without.

But many fear this journey because of the ego. In your attempts to reconcile even a fraction of enlightenment with your world, you must deal with the egoic world around you and that is the arena that the ego so delights in taking charge for it has had so much experience with it.

So there is this constant battle between the ego, future-based, whats-in it for-me thinking, and enlightenment, the serve-humanity-become-a-creature-of-love-in-all-circumstances thinking. This is definitely two words that cannot coexist in any way and to delude yourself into thinking that you can make them “play nice” together is a thinking that shall not bode well for you.

There is a fork in the road and no part of one can go with the other. Enlightenment and the ego are not partners, friends or symbiotic entities that could serve one another.

So the three steps, as alluded in the previous post, are a simple easy-to-remember trio of Release, Let Go and Flow, but living them is not so easy to do.

Step 1: Providing you have dealt with the ego, if nothing else but to acknowledge the fact that you have let it be the CEO for far too long, this is the easiest and yet, at the same time, the most difficult step. Again, the ego will really rear its ugly head here, but push onward. Release is really an act of forgiveness; of yourself, of the events, people, places and things that may have deposited you in this Now Moment.

There is no judgement here. It is as it is supposed to be and there is no desiring anything else to have happened. There are no “should of’s”, “if only’s” or “what if’s”. There is only Now and it is the moment that all is well.

Release and forgive all.

In the spiritual realm, forgiveness is the key for really moving forward. All spiritual doctrines have at their core the very concept of forgiveness. It is only when they attach some sort of gain or punishment that it becomes deluded and watered down as an ineffective vehicle for enlightenment.

But this is the step that begins the journey in earnest. This is the basis of the allowing the truth about yourself as a true child of the Universal Way. Once you have taken this step of forgiveness, true release can be the only truth that you know. It is as if you take from your eyes the “rose colored glasses” that people say when they (their ego) determines that you are living in some “la-la land” that is the journey of enlightenment. You now see in full color and the beauty of every Now Moment comes cascading to you.

For the clients i serve, i use the analogy of the hit program and movies, ‘The Highlander.”

In the series, there are those who are immortal, except for one small exception, other immortals can make them not-so-much by taking their head and gaining the one who lost their head their soul’s power. The liner from the show was, “There can be only one” meaning that only one Highlander was to remain at the end.

This is the process you must undergo in your path of forgiveness.

Metaphorically, you take take the “head” of all the situations in your life that have held you tied to the past or that has kept the present from advancing you into the glorious Now Moments that make up your future Now Moments. You take back the power you have allowed them to have.

Yes, part of the forgiving is that understanding that you cannot be a victim here. Yes, things may have happened that you did not desire, but you are not a victim, but one who overcomes; one who forgives and moves into the next step of Letting Go.

In the next post, we will see how the blending of these steps set you up to set your foot on the path of enlightenment, the Flow of it all.

Appreciation for the Mission in The Present Moment

Appreciation is the core value that manifest a Mission that truly reflects the very nature of the love of life. Appreciation is that beautiful nature that can’t be faked or manufactured, such as you see when Hollywood does with some Thanksgiving feast when a troubled family seemingly comes together and gives feigned appreciation.

For as far as i can remember, i was troubled at something at the way appreciation was portrayed along with the following season. Don’t get me wrong, it is grand to see people become Scrooges for if even for a brief season; the part where Scrooge is transformed, that is.

But only when i took my journey that has set me on my Mission to give people back themselves, did i really understand the depth of appreciation and what it actually does to the soul. It is my belief that at the heart of the very spiritual concept of faith is appreciation. It is appreciation that provides the prism for all of life. It is appreciation for life that we begin to see beyond ourselves.

It goes beyond the concepts of forced “thank yous” we all had to give when our aunt gave us the scarf we didn’t really like, or some other manifested reason appeared that we should be thankful for.

It is in the well-meaning actions of those who loved us that we were given such a skewed look at the very meaning of appreciation in our lives. So many times it comes off as a forced look at a guilt reaction of what someone has done for us. So the appreciation then becomes a bitter pill you swallow that has no meaning outside of the words you utter. Guilt becomes appreciation to the ego and resentment often nest deep within it.

I see it often times with the very act of gift giving where someone gives a gift, expects appreciation, which you have been taught to do, and then proceeds to tell you at some future time, that because they gave you a gift, that a certain action should now be manifest, be it love or some supposed show of love. The ego then drills down to the act of the forced appreciation that you did and begins to feed on the very act of appreciation as a ploy or ruse and bitterness begins to accumulate. Love and appreciation are often time so linked that one would believe that they must coexist together.

Yes and No. For you see, if you come from a place of love, appreciation is at the heart of everything you do, but appreciation must never demand love. Make sense?

This is one of the hardest values to really uncover, for most will tell you that appreciate this and that in their lives, but you can see that appreciation is not their core. To breech this with clients, i often get to the very act of gift giving and have found that most have had (or do) the “weapons of gifts”, as i like to call them, inflicted on them.

What i must first get most over is that a gift, defined in the dictionary as, “A thing given willingly to someone without payment.” is just that.

In the spiritual realm it is often why so many have a hard time with a gift of salvation, in that our ego knows that there are always strings attached, so there is nothing “freely given.” So getting people past that attitude and the very act of doing that to others as well, is the first hurdle. When you can get ego to release the assumptions of gifts, of giving and of the very nature of appreciation, then we can begin to give you back your life starting from that point.

Appreciation is the core value of the Mission for your life and for living from a place of love. Here is where we begin to master looking beyond yourself and seeing that life is indeed a Mission that you are involved in.

Let’s look at three ways to begin the process of Appreciation, but know that we have only touched the surface of having a true Attitude of Gratitude.

In my morning journal practice, i begin with “thank you thank you thank you” and i truly mean it. This is the act of preparation to receive from an attitude of being thankful for all within your life.

First, then, would be to prepare yourself by being thankful form the outset for EVERYTHING. Nothing must exist within your realm that is not appreciated.

In the movie, “A Wonderful Life”, George Bailey, played by Jimmy Stewart, has just discovered that he is back from being “non-existent” and is running down his little street of Bedford Falls. As he is doing so, appreciation for every aspect of his little town spews from his mouth. All of those places he took for granted, now had a new meaning and he appreciated everything for what it was to him. He now lived in an attitude of gratitude and in that light he saw his Mission for living and that he had been on a Mission without really understanding it.

Next, after you have truly given yourself over to appreciation of everything, there is an aspect of release that you must do. Forgiveness must now be your nature. First yourself, and, then, all other people, places and things that the ego has told you have wronged you in any way. This is a process, but one that must take place to move forward. Living free from here means you can now move beyond yourself to a Mission mindset.

Finally, in our simple three step appreciation appreciation manifestation, is to release worry, which is a task in and of itself that affects your Mission, the going beyond yourself to impact humanity.

In the next post we shall proceed form that point and deal with worry as it is a challenge that must have its own discussion.
